I wake up extra early and tip-toe down the steps, avoiding the squeaky one, into the kitchen. I brew some coffee and make it just the way I like it with a lot of cream and sweetener. I gather all my necessities for a good quiet time: Bible, books, my favorite pens, journal, and Chapstick. I sit down in my "quiet time" chair, the one with the best lighting. I pull up a foot stool and sink in as my muscles relax and I take in the quiet. The peace.
I reach for my coffee and lean in to take my first sip when I feel something. Eyes watching me. I turn my head to find a not-so-happy-or-sunshiney face whine out, Are you gonna make me any breakfast? Thankfully, this doesn't happen every morning, but it happens enough for me to spew out my own whine: Can't I just get a little bit of me time?
Hi, I'm Kate. I'm a stay-at-home, home-schooling mom with one husband, Steve, and three kids, all adopted from China (not the husband), all born with cleft lip/palate. I enjoy reading, writing, and growing vegetables in my garden. In 2006, I put this blog together to keep friends and family updated on our adoptions. In 2012, during our most recent adoption, it morphed into an avenue for me to share my love of writing and humor.
Check out my sidebar for my most popular and funniest posts. The tabs at the top are where you can find my funny lists, funny pictures and memes and where my writing has been featured.
I also write a "gardening with humor" blog at I Try to Grow Stuff.
Thanks for stopping by!
It totally looks like I'm about to be hit with a bucket of water. |
Hi Kate,
ReplyDeleteYou stopped by my blog earlier so I thought I would check out yours. I had planned to already as I saw that you have adopted children. Wanted to read about your experience.Love the title of your blog and it looks like it will be an interesting read.
:)
Kate
LOL. I love that you admitted to posting an old pic! My About Me pic is from like 5 years ago. My excuse is that I just don't have any good pictures of me from more recently, but the reality (that I won't admit to myself) is that I just looked BETTER 5 years ago! Obviously! BTW, thanks for commenting on my blog. I'm loving yours! :)
ReplyDeleteHey, just checking out your blog for the first time - I found you through the Monday Listicles link-up, and I think your blog is hilarious! Definitely a new follower!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much pinkbears! I'll be heading over to check out your blog.

I LOVE being flocked!
DeleteHi Kate, I am from Julie's Facebook group and so happy to flocking you today. Can totally relate to just wanting me time and don't get much of that either with my two little girls and husband too!! Look forward to reading more from you and congratulations again :) :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for coming by Janine!
DeleteHi, Kate, I've come to you from the More Than Mommies Mixer. We're a homeschooling family too. Your All Asians Look Alike post was really something -- I'm not sure I have the words to describe it -- and I really admire your aplomb during the situation. I don't think I would have been as cool. I also really enjoyed the Dear Naked Barbie Doll and Have You Ever signed up to Serve God but... posts. And I'm posting one comment because I'm a little bit lazy. But generally honest. :)
ReplyDeleteHey is it just me or do you have comments turned off on your posts? Tried to comment on one and I cannot find it anywhere??? Please say it isn't me or I'll get a complex!
ReplyDeleteI think they're on. Somebody else just commented. Maybe refreshing the page would work? Some people can't comment on my page because I use Disqus (lame). But you've commented lost and you commented here, so maybe it's a fluke.
DeleteHey--it's Manju Kurian from EHS!!! So glad to have found you and your beautiful family! I go by Sara (given name since I was tired in grad school of everyone mispronouncing Manju) now, but still the same. Now you're Kate! Love to see this and the pics of your beautiful family. Blessings, Manju
ReplyDeleteManju!!! How are you? Are you on Facebook? I tried to find you, but couldn't. If you get this note, email me or find me on Facebook. Would love to chat with you!
ReplyDeleteI love this so much!! I totally relate to the "Can I get a little more me time"! In fact, the entire first paragraph was just perfect, I was thinking, yes, me too!! ;) Have a blessed day and a very Merry Christmas!!!
ReplyDeleteI'm totally in love with your blog already. You have adopted 3 children..um I think you've just become my hero!
ReplyDeleteI think your answers are so cute! I participated too.. but did a more bitchy post!! Ha! http://www.kjaggers.com/2013/01/theme-thursday-blogging.html.. I am now following you! Have a great Friday!
ReplyDeleteWow, you and your husband are incredibly wonderful and brave people, giving three children with a disability a better life! Thank you so much for making this world a better one!
